June 19, 2019
The Summer Solstice is coming up soon, on Friday, June 21. This is officially the longest day of the year, and the first day of summer. I will be celebrating this year’s Summer Solstice camping along one of my favorite creeks with a group of my favorite people. After a day of kayaking, we will set up camp on a gravel beach, have some dinner, and then prepare for ceremony. I am planning water ceremony, fire ceremony, and a special solstice mandala to celebrate the abundance of beauty in our lives. Here in the Ozarks, we have had a long spring with plentiful rains for the first time in a few years. The waters have been blessing us with energies of fluidity, emotionality, and change. Important lessons associated with fluidity include non-attachment and adaptability.
However you have fared and flowed within the watery and fertile energies of spring, it is now time to focus on the themes of the Summer Solstice. Summer Solstice themes center around celebrations of abundance and fertility. It is a time of reflecting upon our growth and enlightenment. Creating ceremony that expresses gratitude to the sun is a great way to celebrate the beginning of summer! We continue to tend our gardens and water the seeds of our dreams during this time. But the solstice is considered a perfect time to gather plants, fruits, and herbs. Your celebration might include the gathering of medicinal herbs and making of medicine, or the gathering of fruits and sharing of a feast. Another symbol or ceremony often associated with the Solstice is the spiral. The sacred spiral may be depicted in a mandala or created through dance and movement. This Friday is a wonderful time for ceremony. Engaging in ceremony helps us to connect with spirit and reclaim our own divinity. Shared ceremonies connect us with community and our soul-connection groups and places.
Also, when we create and participate in ceremonies, we are engaging with the universe, ourselves, our emotions, problems, other people, the ancestors and the land at the mythic level and also at the energetic level. Rapid, permanent, and meaningful change is possible at the energetic level. The mythic level helps us to identify what we wish to change in our stories and our lives. Working at the mythic level connects us with the collective consciousness and assists us with our soul’s evolution.
When combined, the mythic and energetic levels of engagement offer powerful tools of transformation. This is where the magic happens! Come back and read my next blog to learn about all four levels of engagement, and how to create beauty and change by weaving all the levels of engagement through your experiences.
Thanks for reading and have a beautiful journey! Feel free to comment below about your Summer Solstice Ceremonies!
